Daniel Craig Martin, Joseph Otway and Richard Cossins will open their third venue in the city
A brand new bar from an esteemed group of restauranteurs is set to open in Manchester later this year. Bar Shrimp will be launched by the team behind two award-winning restaurants.
Industry veterans Daniel Craig Martin, Joseph Otway and Richard Cossins will open their third venue in the city following the success of their award-winning restaurant Higher Ground, and New Islington wine bar, Flawd.
Opening winter 2025, little is known yet about location or design, but it will serve cocktails, beers on tap, British seafood and snacks with ‘world-class’ sound.
Known for their commitment to quality hospitality within Manchester, the trio have said that Bar Shrimp will be an extension of their ethos, offering a ‘relaxed and focused bar with delicious food’.
The trio are behind some of the most exciting food and drink concepts in the city including Higher Ground on New York Street, which originally started out as a pop-up in the bungalow venue opposite the Gay Village.
It was forced to shutter in 2020 due to the pandemic, so its three founders went on to open Cinderwood Market Garden in Cheshire and Flawd, a neighbourhood wine bar and bottle shop on New Islington Marina in 2021, before creating Higher Ground as a fully fledged restaurant in February 2023.

It celebrates ‘regenerative farming and local produce’, with around 90% of the ingredients included in its menu sourced from the trio’s Cinderwood farm in Nantwich. Higher Ground also features an extensive wine list celebrating small-scale, low intervention makers from around Europe.
Since opening in 2023, it has received numerous awards as well as glowing food reviews from national food critics. It first garnered national attention when it shot into a prestigious list of the very best restaurants in the UK.
In September 2023, the restaurant was one of two Greater Manchester restaurants to be namechecked in the Michelin Inspectors’ Favourite New Restaurants too, and have since gone on to pick further awards and accolades including a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
The news was announced on social media this morning, but Joseph and Richard also appeared as guests on Cerys Matthews 6Music Show on Sunday morning as part of the BBC Radio 6 Festival which has taken place in Manchester over the past few days.
