Channel 4 ‘s brand-new series Get Millie Back premieres on Wednesday night (March 5), with the drama promising to be one you don’t want to miss.

With Patience and Brian and Maggie proving to be hits for the station in the opening months of the year, Channel 4’s new drama might be their best of the year to date.

The series also has the backing of TV giants HBO, who have produced hit shows such as Succession, House of the Dragon, The White Lotus and The Last of Us in recent years.

What is Get Millie Back about?

Get Millie Back tells the tale of former Scotland Yard Detective Millie-Jean Black (Tamara Lawrence) who has made the move to her home country of Jamaica to work for the missing person’s unit.

The ambitious series sees a missing persons case threatens to blow Millie’s world apart. On the hunt for a missing 16-year-old girl, Millie soon discovers that she’s not the only one looking.

Full of deadly twists and turns, tension arrives in the form of Scotland Yard detective Luke Holburn (Joe Dempsie), who is also searching for the missing teen, but perhaps he is not looking to save her.

Rather than setting another detective series in England, the Jamaican landscape offers viewers something fresh in the genre that continues to be one of the best the country has to offer.

How many episodes are there?

Get Millie Back’s debut season consists of five episodes, with the second episode premiering the following night, also at 9pm on Channel 4.

All episodes are avalible to stream now for those with Channel 4+, which viewers can buy for a monthly fee of £3.99 or an annual fee of £39.99. Those who have not signed up before can avail of a 7-day free trial.

Filmed as part of a collboration between Channel 4 and HBO, the series actually premiered on the American channel back in November of last year.

Marlon James, Creator and Executive Producer, said when the show was announced: “This is the first major international TV show to put my home country, Jamaica, centre stage, so it’s beyond awesome to have actual world-class Jamaican talent both in front and behind the camera, with our star Tamara Lawrance and Director Tanya Hamilton.”

Lead actress Tamara Lawrence is most known for her work in the second season of BBC drama Time in 2023, where she played a prisoner alongside former Doctor Who Jodie Whittacker and The Last of Us’ Bella Ramsey. Last year she went toe-to-toe with The Walking Dead’s Lenny James in BBC drama Mr Loverman. 2024 also saw her win unanimous praise from her critics in indie-film, The Silent Twins.

Playing Millie’s sister Hibiscus is Chyna McQueen, who is making her television debut. Gershwyn Eusache Jnr is one of British TV’s most reliable actors, appearing alongisde Sophie Turner in ITV’s Joan, BBC’s Silent Witness, I May Destroy You and Star Wars series Andor.

Playing the series’ baddie is none other than Skins legend Joe Dempsie, who burst onto the scene in the Channel 4 drama that launches the careers of him, Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel, Kaya Scodelario and Daniel Kaluuya. The 37-year-old went on to appear in several seasons of Game of Thrones and This is England. Joe is currently earning plaudits for his work in Netflix drama Toxic Towns.

Also appearing in new Amazon Prime Video series Fear this week, Anjli Mohindra has been seen in Bodyguard, Dark Heart, The Suspect and The Red King after beginning her career on Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures. With the bulk of Get Millie’s cast making their telly debuts, it might be a good time to meet the stars of tomorrow.

Get Millie Back airs on Wednesday, March 5, at 9pm on Channel 4and is available to stream on Channel 4+.
