Enwin workers have been deployed to the Chatham-Kent and Orillia regions to help repair damage and restore power following severe storms earlier this week.

The utilities company dispatched a crew to the Chatham-Kent area in collaboration with Essex Powerlines and other local utilities to replace damaged critical infrastructure after severe thunderstorms swept through April 2. Initial crews were sent to Orillia earlier in the week.

Officials said crews are expected to remain in the field through the weekend.

“This storm has caused significant damage across parts of the province, and restoration efforts will require close coordination between utilities,” said president and CEO of Enwin Utilities Garry Rossi.

“We’re proud to contribute to the province-wide mutual aid effort and support the communities that have been hardest hit, all while continuing to maintain reliable service for our customers in Windsor.”

Enwin says the deployment of crews outside the region will not affect local electricity services.

The utility’s operations team remains fully staffed and equipped to handle any service needs within the city, officials said in a statement Friday.

“Enwin extends its support and solidarity to the affected communities and commends all utility workers across the province for their tireless efforts,” the utility provider said.
